An underused rear garden became a private secondary dwelling, while preserving usable landscape and separation from the existing home

THE BRIEF
A steep backyard, an existing home and the need for a compact second dwelling had to be resolved as one site rather than as separate projects.

 

THE DESIGN MOVE


The design creates a sequence of pool, deck and elevated dwelling that follows the changing levels. The secondary dwelling sits lightly above the slope to reduce ground disturbance and maintain useful outdoor space.
